Role Summary
The Clinical Nurse Specialist is an advanced practice registered nurse with expertise in managing care for a defined specialty population. CNS practice centers on translating evidence-based standards into high-quality patient care and improved outcomes. This includes direct patient care, influencing nursing practice, and driving system-level improvements across three spheres of influence: patient and family, nursing practice, and organizational systems.
This role requires advanced clinical expertise, strong communication and collaboration skills, consultation abilities, and leadership in education, evaluation, mentorship, and change management.
Qualifications

Master’s degree (MSN or MS in Nursing)

Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)

Minimum two years of recent obstetrical nursing experience

Minimum two years of labor and delivery experience

Previous teaching experience preferred

Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing in Michigan

Basic Life Support within orientation period
-
Advanced Cardiac Life Support within orientation period if covering critically ill populations

Strong analytical, organizational and prioritization skills

Proficiency in multiple software applications

Flexibility and ability to manage concurrent projects

Effective communication and negotiation skills

Ability to work within inter-professional teams
Physical and Cognitive Requirements
This role involves high levels of mental and visual focus, frequent computer work, and regular lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional assistance with heavier tasks may be required. Work demands sustained hand-eye coordination and the ability to handle multiple deadlines.
