Role Summary
The Physical Therapist evaluates, plans and administers medically prescribed physical therapy treatments for patients with injuries or conditions affecting muscles, nerves, joints and bones. The goal is to restore function, improve strength, relieve pain and enhance independence. Direct patient care requires demonstrated competencies specific to the population served.
Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy program

Licensed Physical Therapist in good standing with the State of Michigan

BLS required within 3 months of hire

Valid Michigan driver’s license, daily access to a personal vehicle and proof of insurance (required for Bronson at Home coverage)

Successful MVR check required prior to start date if driving for Bronson at Home

Ability to maintain updated auto insurance documentation

Keyboarding skills for PC/mobile device use
-
Strong communication skills with patients, visitors and care team members
-
Social sensitivity and ability to communicate effectively in English

High level of interpersonal skill for delicate patient care situations
Physical Demands
This role involves sustained concentration, computer use up to 40 percent of the time, frequent standing and walking, regular lifting of light objects up to 20 pounds and assisting with heavier patient-related tasks. Some straining or repetitive motions may be required.
Clinical Responsibilities

Interpret and implement referrals

Evaluate functional abilities including range of motion, strength and coordination using standardized assessments

Establish functional baselines and treatment goals

Participate in interdisciplinary discussions, rounds and clinics

Develop education and treatment plans

Provide family and community education
-
Conduct individual and group therapy sessions
-
Instruct patients in skills needed to participate in treatment

Design and fabricate splints or assistive devices as needed

Support program development and department process improvement

Serve as a resource in areas of expertise

Provide in-services for the Bronson Rehabilitation System

Cross-train and provide coverage across Rehabilitation Services as needed
Administrative Responsibilities
-
Document evaluations, treatment plans, interventions and progress in the electronic health record within compliance timelines

Communicate any limitations affecting timely documentation
-
Maintain accurate, legible and complete patient records
-
Participate in committees, task forces and process improvement initiatives
-
Demonstrate effective time management

Supervise PTA, Rehab Clinical Assistants, PT students, PTA students, volunteers and athletic trainers
