Position Summary
The Cook plays an essential role in delivering high-quality meal service to patients, visitors and staff. This position prepares hot and cold food items, follows strict dietary and sanitation guidelines, and supports both retail and in-patient culinary operations. The Cook also serves as a key connection between the Clinical team and Food and Nutrition Services, assisting patients with meal ordering and dietary needs.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare, cook and portion hot and cold food items including meats, vegetables, soups, sauces, desserts and baked goods

Follow recipes, production sheets, portion standards and dietary guidelines

Assist patients with meal ordering, menu questions and dietary restrictions

Deliver meals, retrieve trays and support room service operations

Operate kitchen equipment, utensils, cash registers and meal ordering systems

Stock, label, rotate and store food and supplies
-
Perform light and heavy cleaning including dishwashing, trash removal and equipment sanitation

Maintain accurate documentation in the Bronson Room Service system

Support process improvement, safety practices and department standards

Provide outstanding customer service to patients, families and peers

Work independently, manage time effectively and support team operations

Supervise PTAs, clinical assistants, students, volunteers or athletic trainers as assigned
Required Qualifications

Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation

Ability to communicate clearly and follow verbal and written directions

Ability to read and understand English

Basic math skills

Ability to demonstrate competencies specific to the patient population served
Preferred Qualifications

Strong customer service background

Organizational skills and ability to work independently

Knowledge of therapeutic diets

Experience with dietary software or cash register systems

One year cooking experience in a high-volume kitchen

Completion of AGF 110 or CUL 100 at KVCC Bronson Healthy Living Campus

Dietary Technician certification
Physical and Work Environment Expectations

Frequent standing, walking and repetitive motion such as chopping or cutting

Regular lifting up to 50 pounds and occasional assistance with heavier tasks

High-volume, fast-paced kitchen environment requiring stamina and focus

Use of proper body mechanics, safe work practices and personal protective equipment

Maintaining a clean, safe workspace and reporting hazards promptly
