Position Summary
The Clinic Registered Nurse works under provider direction and performs general nursing functions for the practice. Responsibilities include recording vital signs, completing initial assessments, obtaining patient histories, and providing clinical information and support to providers. The RN updates patient charts, educates patients and families on medications and care plans, and assists with referrals. Additional duties include phone triage and supporting other areas of the clinic as needed. Direct patient care requires demonstrated competency for the population served.
Qualifications

Diploma, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required

Six to twelve months of healthcare experience preferred

Licensed RN in good standing with the State of Michigan required

BLS certification required

Strong interpersonal, problem solving and prioritization skills

Ability to process information confidentially

Clear and effective communication with patients, providers and staff

Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team

Strong computer skills with the ability to read, interpret and analyze data
Physical and Mental Requirements

High levels of mental and visual concentration

Frequent computer use for 40 to 70 percent of the time

Regular lifting of moderately heavy items up to 50 pounds

Occasional assistance with heavier tasks or equipment
Key Responsibilities

Prepare for patient appointments and maintain documentation standards

Review charts prior to appointments to ensure all information is available
-
Prepare patients for examinations, including assessments, histories, vital signs, medication reconciliation and routine testing

Provide initial patient condition assessments to physicians
-
Triage calls and determine urgency, appointment needs or phone advice
-
Assist providers with minor and emergency procedures
-
Schedule tests and procedures and provide patient instructions
-
Document test and procedure results and notify patients
-
Perform point-of-care testing and document results
-
Coordinate admissions, referrals and prescription requests
-
Provide patient and family education
-
Take verbal, telephone and written medication orders and administer treatments as directed

Maintain and review patient records and charts
-
Participate in performance improvement activities and use results to improve nursing practice

Communicate effectively with other healthcare team members

Attend staff meetings and participate in ongoing education

Maintain professional records demonstrating competency

Assist with completion of required forms

Support colleagues through knowledge sharing

Stock supplies and maintain exam rooms

Understand insurance and referral policies
