Lifeguard – Bronson Lifestyle Improvement & Research Center (Part Time)
About the Role
The lifeguard monitors the aquatic environment, enforces facility rules, and ensures a safe, positive experience for all members and patrons. This role requires attentiveness, proactive risk management, and strong customer service skills. Lifeguards respond to emergencies within the scope of American Red Cross Lifeguarding training and the Bronson Athletic Club Emergency Action Plan. Lifeguards may also support group, team, or private swimming lesson activities.
Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age or older

Nationally recognized lifeguarding certification required within 90 days of hire

Accepted programs include American Red Cross, YMCA, or Ellis
-
Certification must include First Aid, CPR, and AED
-
Ability to perform all rescues and prerequisite skills required by the American Red Cross Pool Lifeguarding program

Ability to:

Swim 300 yards continuously
-
Tread water for 2 minutes without arm use
-
Swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10-pound object from a depth of 7–10 feet, and return to the starting point

Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to communicate facility rules clearly and respectfully
Physical & Cognitive Requirements

High levels of mental and visual focus

Frequent hand-eye coordination tasks

Regular lifting of items up to 50 pounds

Occasional assistance with heavier tasks or equipment

Ability to stand, walk, and remain alert for extended periods
Key Responsibilities
-
Monitor the aquatic environment and maintain patron safety according to Bronson Athletic Club policy and State Health Code
-
Enforce facility rules and provide clear, respectful communication to members and guests

Respond to emergencies within training scope

Complete opening and closing duties
-
Measure and record free chlorine levels in pools, hot tubs, and cold plunges
-
Assist with annual pool shutdown tasks

Support swim lesson activities as assigned
