The City of Mt. Pleasant is seeking a detail-oriented professional with experience in criminal justice and public safety records, proficiency in clerical support, and skilled computer-based work. The Office Professional plays a critical role in documenting criminal cases as dictated by Police Officers, providing administrative support for Fire Department operations, and ensuring information is processed in accordance with public safety standards.
A high school diploma and two years of responsible clerical experience or two years of college and six months of responsible clerical experience are required. The successful candidate must demonstrate proficiency in using computers, business software applications, and office technology, utilize strong problem-solving skills, and work well in a team-based environment. Experience working in criminal justice records, Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN), transcribing police or other detailed reports, and a general understanding of the court system is preferred.
The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The major responsibilities include:
- Transcription and typing of investigative police reports, affidavits, warrant requests, search warrants, and processing juvenile petitions.
- Utilizing the Michigan State Police Michigan Criminal Justice Information Network (MiCJIN) Portal to perform the following functions:
- Entering and editing information related to the Michigan Sex Offender Registry
- Processing gun license to purchase permits
- Entering gun registrations for civilians and dealers
- Accessing and printing Michigan driver license information and photos
- Lab report copies to officers, assigned Prosecutor, and original report
- Utilizing the Michigan State Police Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) to perform a variety of functions, including:
- Entering stolen property, including stolen vehicles
- Entering, editing, and removing wanted person files
- Entering, editing, and removing missing person files
- Accessing Federal and State criminal history record information (CHRI)
- Accessing Michigan and out-of-state driver license information
- Administrative messages to confirm LEIN entries
- Update, maintain, and access records utilizing the Core TIMS Records Management System for the following record types:
- Law reports
- Arrest reports
- Warrants
- Vehicles
- People
- Daily record review
- Providing comprehensive administrative support to Fire Department operations including:
- Scheduling and billing for rental/commercial property inspections
- Managing property records and updates
- Processing and handling Code Enforcement complaints and notifications
- Monitoring lapsed rental certificates
- Preparing minutes for monthly Fire Department leadership meetings
- Providing excellent customer service while performing the following business window responsibilities:
- Handling, prioritizing, screening all phone calls from the general public, law enforcement agencies, businesses, courts, and other City offices
- Processing all initial paperwork for the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Coordinator
- Performing background checks for Federal, State, and local law enforcement, military, probation, and parole
- Monitor and operate police radio
Hiring wage is $20.63/hour to $21.32/hour, depending on qualifications. The 2026 maximum pay for an Office Professional I is $25.13/hour. Maximum pay is available after one or two years of employment, depending on the rate of pay received upon hire. Wage rate information is available in the TPOAM union contract. Advancement to higher level Office Professional classification with increased compensation is available. Such advancement opportunities involve skills testing.

Mt. Pleasant is a growing and financially stable community located in the geographic center of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. The City Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide range of recreational programs for all ages, including youth soccer, softball, golf, basketball, volleyball, and tennis. The City operates and maintains 11 parks comprising 300 acres, offering venues for picnicking, swimming, fishing, canoeing, and hiking. The Isabella County park system adds another 900 acres with similar opportunities as well as camping and cross-country skiing.
