The Position
Under the direction of the Custodial Manager, the Custodial Lead is responsible for overseeing and supporting the Custodial Department’s front-line Technicians during assigned shifts to ensure all Greater Midland facilities maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety and efficiency. This role serves as a working leader, ensuring cleaning protocols are followed,
assisting with training, providing guidance to staff, and addressing immediate facility needs. The Custodial Lead helps ensure smooth daily operations, resolves on-the-spot challenges, and maintains a clean and safe environment for patrons and employees. This Custodial Lead must maintain high personal standards, adhere to, and carry out the Purpose and Values of Greater Midland.
Major Job Responsibilities
? Lead by Example: Act as the on-duty leader during assigned shifts, ensuring staff adhere to cleaning protocols, safety guidelines, and organizational standards.
? Training & Support: Assist in onboarding new team members and provide ongoing training and coaching to ensure consistent cleaning procedures and best practices.
? Quality Assurance: Conduct routine inspections of assigned areas to ensure proper cleanliness and sanitation, addressing any deficiencies in real time.
? Team Coordination: Organize and delegate tasks to Custodial staff to maximize efficiency and effectiveness during shifts.
? Problem Solving: Address immediate facility cleanliness or maintenance concerns, escalating larger issues to the Custodial Manager as needed.
? Safety & Compliance: Ensure staff follow MIOSHA safety regulations and proper use of cleaning supplies, equipment, and protective gear.
? Inventory & Supplies: Monitor and restock cleaning supplies as needed, reporting low inventory levels or supply needs to the Custodial Manager.
? Facility Readiness: Ensure timely and thorough completion of scheduled and deep-cleaning tasks, supporting facility setups for rentals, programs, and events.
? Reporting & Communication: Document shift activities, staff attendance, incident reports, and maintenance issues, and communicate key updates to the Custodial Manager.
? Employee Accountability: Provide feedback to staff on performance, reinforcing expectations, and reporting concerns or policy violations to the Custodial Manager.
? Alignment: Consistently demonstrate leadership behaviors aligned with Greater Midland’s Values.
Qualifications & Skills
? High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certifications in facility management, custodial
management, or related fields preferred.
? Minimum of 2 years of prior experience in custodial or facility maintenance management, preferably in a multiunit or high-traffic facility.
? Prior experience in custodial/janitorial work, or facility maintenance required.
? Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
? Strong attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
? Ability to train and guide staff in proper cleaning and safety procedures.
? Good communication and problem-solving skills.
? Ability to work independently and make decisions in the absence of the Custodial Manager.
Work Schedule & Conditions
? This position requires availability for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shifts, including weekends as needed.
? Work is performed in a fast-paced environment with physical activity required throughout the shift.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, bend, push, and perform physical tasks related to cleaning and facility upkeep as needed to support the team and ensure cleanliness standards.
Schedule
Wednesday - Friday from 8p to 2:30a, Saturday 7p to 12:30a, and Sunday 1p to 5p.
