Job Summary
Under the general supervision of a jail Sergeant, the Security / Corrections Officer provides security for incarcerated inmates in the Saginaw County Jail. Responsibilities include supervising inmates during exercise and visitation periods, assisting with searches, rounds, feeding, changing clothing, delivering mail, moving inmates, and performing incidental duties.
Essential Functions

Conduct rounds to ensure prisoners are safe, secure, accounted for, and that all rules and regulations are being followed.

Relocate inmates from quarantine to new cell locations and from holding tanks in Booking to new cell locations.

Complete various paperwork, maintain control tower log, and prepare reports on unusual activities.

Remove inmates from cells, conduct searches, and escort them to/from exercise areas; monitor inmates during exercise periods.

Perform various functions during visitation, supervising inmates and visitors in the visitation room.

Periodically search inmate cells for contraband items and document findings in written reports.

Issue clean clothing to inmates.

Ensure the jail is clean and sanitary.

Assist in inmate feeding, deliver mail, and escort inmates to the medical area, etc.

Oversee trustees performing various functions such as distributing forms, laundry, and supplies.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School graduate or GED equivalent.

Training: Must attend and pass the 160-hour Local Corrections Officer Training Academy within one year of hire.

Skills: Ability to use tact and diplomacy and understand people from all social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.

Screening: Must successfully complete the employment screening process, which may include oral evaluations, psychological, physical, and drug screening, as well as a complete background investigation.
