Job Summary: The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) supports students' fine motor, sensory, and daily living skills under an Occupational Therapist’s supervision, with a focus on integrating art instruction to enhance motor skill development. This position plays a critical role in implementing therapy plans from IEPs, collaborating with teachers and parents, and focusing on fine motor skills through art instruction. COTAs participate in student meetings, track progress, maintain documentation, and ensure compliance with regulations, playing a vital role in student success.
Certifications/Qualifications:
- Required Associate's Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university occupational therapy assistant program.
- CRT-Occupational Therapy Assistant, Certified (COTA) - NB-COT National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy certified or eligible Upon Hire required
- Familiarity with working in a school environment is preferred.
- Experience with art instructional practices or integrating fine arts into lessons and activities preferred.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Provide services for students receiving occupational therapy services under direction of a Registered Occupational Therapist with a focus on art instruction and fine motor development.
- Participate in Multi-Disciplinary Team (MET) meetings, Eligibility Recommendation (ER) meetings and Individual Educational Planning Team (IEP) meetings.
- Maintain, prepare, and process the district’s required documentation, which includes but not limited to the following: Program evaluation/data, Medicaid data, IEP progress data, etc.
- Participate in program development and staff development activities with other professional personnel.
- Consult regularly with classroom and related service providers.
- Serve as a resource to staff members in the development of a balanced program for occupational therapy and physical therapy.
- Maintain daily lesson plans in accordance with individual student and program goals.
- Keep supervising Registered Occupational Therapist, special education supervisor, local school district coordinator of special education, and Associate Superintendent of special education informed of any issues that may significantly impact the delivery of special education programs and services.
- Other duties as assigned by the Special Education Supervisor or Associate Superintendent of Special Education.
