Position: Adaptive PE Teacher (Seiter Education Center-Greenville)
Position Effective Date: 2025-2026 School Year

Terms of Employment: Wage and benefits to be in accordance with the Master Agreement for Certified Staff.
Job Summary: The Adaptive PE teacher will design and implement physical education programs for students with disabilities, focusing on improving fitness, motor skills, and social interaction. This role’s focus will be on creating personalized lesson plans, collaborating with special education teams, and ensuring a safe, supportive environment that promotes physical activity, confidence, and overall development.
Certifications/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and Valid Michigan Teaching Certification with endorsement in Physical Education for Students with Disabilities (SP) or willingness to seek this endorsement with an existing endorsement in other special education area.
- Meet all of the requirements of R. 340.1797 of the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE).
- Knowledge and experience in center based programming for students with disabilities of various ages is preferred.
- Additional qualifications and alternatives to the above as the Board of Education may deem appropriate.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Collaborating with a team to create personalized goals for students, ensuring their physical and educational needs are met.
- Adjusting physical activities to align with the goals set in each student's IEP.
- Assisting students with disabilities during PE classes, offering guidance and support to ensure successful participation.
- Addressing behavioral challenges and promoting positive behavior in physical activity settings.
- Keeping families informed about their child's progress and involving them in the learning process.
- Coordinating with classroom teachers, physical therapists, and speech therapists to integrate physical development into other aspects of the student’s education.
- Designing adaptive lessons that cater to students with varying abilities, while promoting inclusion and physical activity.
- Keeping accurate records of students' progress, accommodations, and interventions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Superintendent of Special Education.
