Job Summary
The Supervisor of Accountability and Technical Assistance plays a vital leadership role in ensuring compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and in implementing robust General Supervision Systems. This position assists the Associate Superintendent of Special Education and supports accountability and integrated support efforts while providing meaningful technical assistance to schools and staff. With a focus on collaboration and continuous improvement, the Supervisor helps drive positive educational outcomes for students with disabilities. In alignment with guidance from the Michigan Department of Education’s Office of Special Education, the Supervisor also leads monitoring activities and coordinates data and accountability systems that promote excellence and equity across programs and services.
Certifications/Qualifications:
1. Master Degree in Special Education or Administration.
2. Current Michigan K-12 administrator certification.
3. Michigan approval as a Supervisor of Special Education.
4. Eligible for State of Michigan approval or temporary approval as Supervisor of Special Education pursuant to Rule 340.1751.
5. Three years of experience in special education programs/services.
6. Prior administrative experience preferred.
7. Additional qualifications and alternatives to the above as the Board of Education may deem appropriate.

Performance Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and conduct special education monitoring activities such as self-assessments, desk audits, file reviews, and on-site visits to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Analyze, interpret, and report compliance and student outcome data, including key indicators like Least Restrictive Environment, Graduation, Discipline, and Disproportionality.
- Complete state complaint investigations with Michigan Department of Education.
- Monitor and support LEA implementation of corrective actions, improvement plans, and compliant policies, procedures, and practices.
- Provide technical assistance and professional learning on special education compliance, monitoring processes, and evidence-based practices, statewide assessments and data collection.
- Collaborate with internal departments, external agencies, and regional/state stakeholders to develop and maintain a cohesive special education monitoring system.
- Maintain accurate documentation and evidence in alignment with state and federal recordkeeping requirements, and support data validation and audit activities.
- Supervise and evaluate special education staff, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and supporting ongoing professional development.
- Assist in the preparation of special grant applications.
- Participate in planning and budgeting processes for special education programs, including assisting with recruitment, hiring, and program evaluations.
- Represent the ISD at local, regional, and state-level meetings, contributing to the development of county-wide policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution, effective communication in one-on-one and group settings, and flexibility to travel and attend occasional evening/weekend activities.
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate Superintendent of Special Education.
