About the Role

Qualifications

• Previous operating room experience required

• Associate degree in Nursing required

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred (must obtain within 8 years of hire)

• Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing in Michigan

• Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from clinical systems and equipment

• Strong communication skills in verbal, written, and electronic formats

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with heavier tasks as needed

Role Overview

The OR RN manages patient care throughout the surgical experience by:

• Using the nursing process of assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation, and evaluation

• Coordinating care with interdisciplinary team members

• Delegating tasks to patient care assistants and support staff

• Providing direct physical care based on patient acuity

• Documenting patient responses, needs, and care delivered

This role requires sustained attention, detailed work, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Patient Assessment and Planning

• Collects comprehensive patient data

• Identifies patient needs and confirms findings with the patient and family

• Develops individualized plans of care and expected outcomes

• Coordinates discharge planning when needed

Implementation

• Administers medications and treatments

• Uses evidence-based interventions

• Maintains patient comfort and safety

• Provides patient education and coordinates teaching plans

• Organizes and delegates care interventions

Evaluation

• Evaluates patient response to interventions

• Documents progress toward expected outcomes

Scrub RN Responsibilities

• Reviews procedure cards and case carts for required supplies

• Anticipates surgeon needs based on procedure and preferences

• Monitors patient condition for changes

• Updates preference cards and case information

• Ensures proper use and handling of equipment and instruments

• Supports circulators unfamiliar with specialty equipment or implants

• Participates in after-hours call rotation

• Performs scrub duties across multiple specialties, including advanced procedures
