Position Title: Mechanic
Location: Transportation Department
Reports To: Director of Transportation and Assistant Director of Transportation

Employment Status: Full-Time, 260-Day Position
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week
Rate of Pay: $25.83 per hour
Start Date: Upon expiration of the posting deadline, per Article XIII, Section C, 2 of the Contract
Openings: One (1) full-time position
General Summary
The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining the District’s fleet of vehicles in optimal working condition to prevent interruptions to educational transportation services.
Essential Job Responsibilities

Analyze and diagnose mechanical issues in the District’s vehicles.

Assign and complete repairs on the fleet.

Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.

Assist in implementing a routine maintenance and preventative care system.

Manage parts and supplies receipts/issuance and track inventory with the Director of Transportation.

Promote safe work practices and maintain clean, hazard-free workspaces.

Report unsafe conditions and hazards promptly.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director or Assistant Director of Transportation.

Maintain cleanliness and functionality of the garage and surrounding area; assist with snow removal.

Attend training and meetings to retain certifications and stay current on school bus laws and regulations.
Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

Associate’s degree in Automotive and/or Diesel Mechanics from an approved program or current Michigan-licensed diesel mechanic with certification in:

Minimum of three years of experience as an auto mechanic (bus experience preferred).

Proven success with diverse mechanical repair tasks.

CDL with air brake and passenger endorsement preferred.

Must possess or be willing to obtain School Bus Certification.

Experience with computerized garage management systems.

Strong ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to adapt to change and manage multiple priorities.

Capable of working independently with sound judgment.

Willingness to complete additional district-provided training.

Strong time management and organizational skills.
Testing
Qualified candidates must show proof of certification.
