Position Title: Bus Driver

Employment Status: Full-Time, Union (USW – Transportation Salary Schedule)
Rate of Pay: Starting at $20.36 per hour

General Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Transportation, the Bus Driver is responsible for the safe transportation of special education students within the Saginaw Intermediate School District. This role ensures the bus environment is safe and hazard-free for all students.
Essential Job Responsibilities

Comply with all rules and regulations of the Michigan Department of Education and Saginaw ISD.

Follow all laws related to the operation of vehicles and school buses.

Maintain a safe and orderly environment on the bus.

Responsible for the condition and operation of the bus, equipment, passengers, and assigned attendant.

Complete daily pre-trip vehicle inspections and report repairs immediately.

Attend CPR/First Aid and other required training sessions.

Work collaboratively with bus assistants and staff to support student medical, behavioral, and safety needs.

Arrive at assigned work site on time, ready to perform duties.

Implement behavior management plans as appropriate, in cooperation with program staff.

Secure wheelchairs and child restraint systems safely and correctly.

Maintain confidentiality of all student, parent, and staff information.

Foster positive relationships with students, families, community members, and staff.
Other Job Responsibilities

Prepare and maintain accurate route sheets.

Complete accident reports for any incident involving the bus or passengers.

Maintain necessary records and reports as required.

Assist in mapping bus routes and scheduling when needed.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director.
Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.

Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with proper endorsements and bus driver certification.

Excellent driving record.

Experience working with children; experience with special needs children preferred.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups.

Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Basic computer/keyboard proficiency.

Willingness to undergo additional training as needed.
