Position Title: Paraprofessional – Special Class Instruction (SCI)

Reports To: Principals and Teachers of Millet Learning Center
Position Type: USW Union – Paraprofessional
Employment Status: Full-Time, Nine (9) Month Positions (2025–2026 School Year)
Rate of Pay: Starting at $15.56 per hour

General Summary
This position provides instructional and non-instructional support services to students as outlined by the assigned certified classroom teacher. Support includes educational instruction, student care, behavior intervention, and classroom management.
Essential Skills & Responsibilities

Provide direct and standby assistance for feeding, toileting, healthcare, and medical needs (within legal scope).

Deliver instruction under the direction and supervision of certified staff.

Collect and tabulate instructional data as directed.

Implement and monitor student behavior plans under teacher guidance.

Assist with community-based instruction per teacher lesson plans.

Support students during transitions, lunch, mobility, bus loading/unloading, and other non-instructional times.

Maintain student, staff, and parent confidentiality.

Foster a positive attitude with students, families, staff, and community members.

Lift and assist students weighing 75 lbs. or more.

Secure wheelchairs and other safety equipment for student bus travel.

Ensure student safety at all times.

Greet visitors in a professional and helpful manner.

Willingly receive additional training to improve job performance.
Marginal Duties
Required Qualifications
-
High school diploma or GED required.
-
Basic computer skills.
-
Either:
-
Two years of experience working with developmentally disabled children, or
-
Two years of college coursework in a related field
-
Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and coworkers.

Ability to lift/assist students 75 lbs. or more.

Strong oral, written, comprehension, and math skills.
-
Consistent attendance record.
