REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and be at least 18 years of age
- State of Michigan Certified Nursing Assistant certificate
- 1 – 3 months related and/or on-the-job training
- Knowledge of basic nursing care procedures (personal hygiene, bathing, toileting, etc.)
- Ability to provide the care necessary relative to a patient’s age specific needs
- Current BLS CPR certification
SUMMARY
Performs the full range of nursing assistant assignments including but not limited to:
- Provide for the personal care and comfort of assigned patients/residents which includes but not limited to bathing, dressing, backrubs, applying lotions, transferring patients/residents to and from bed, turning patients/residents, applying, monitoring, releasing restraints, and the use of special devices (splints).
- Assist patients/residents at mealtimes. Will distribute meal trays and will set up, assist, or feed patients/residents dependent upon their capability. Will transport patients/residents to and from dining areas for meals.
- Perform basic nursing care procedures: Temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, ROM, intake and output measurements, and recording data on specified documents following prescribed procedures.
- Implements bowel and bladder programs. Assist patients/residents to and from bathroom or commode. Provide assistance to patients as to the use of bedpans or urinals. Change collection devices.
- Maintain patient/residents rooms in a manner that is both environmentally pleasant and safe. This includes changing bed linens, putting patient/resident clothing in the appropriate areas, storing patient/resident equipment, and assuring a clear path within the room.
- Collect routine urine specimens or other non-routine specimens that may be directed by the staff nurse (i.e. stool, sputum).
- Assist with teaching patients/residents to perform personal care functions to increase their degree of independence.
- Perform and assist patients/residents with ROM and other restorative rehabilitative procedures.
- Participate with the patient's/resident's care planning process and follow the care plan to deliver the care for expected outcomes.
