General Statement of Responsibilities:
Set up and operate various machine tools including but not limited to Lathes, Mills, Drills, Saws and Surface Grinders, etc. to produce required product from prints, samples, and sketches, etc.
Specific Duties:
Reviews prints in order to plan sequence of operations required for job.
Selects proper materials to be used including type of steel, machines, tooling, gauging
instruments, etc.
Performs setup and operates each machine tool required to produce the part to proper
specifications or to grinding allowances if product is to require grinding.
Uses various types of gauging and measuring instruments in order to check and
dimensionally verify the part being used.
Assists in the design, manufacture and development of new tools or processes working
closely with Engineering and other department personnel.
Troubleshoots and develops corrective actions for tooling or process related problems
on production floor.
Performs all required paperwork and record keeping.
Understands and operates according to TS16949 work instructions for area.
Participate in process improvement and assists in the development of new tooling or processes working closely with engineering and other employees.
Maintain housekeeping in the department in order to facilitate a neat, safe, and orderly work environment.
Has the responsibility and authority to prevent non-conformances relating to product, process, and quality systems including stopping production when suspect product is being run. Job specific authority and responsibilities for quality are defined in the work instructions for that job/department.
Perform all other duties as assigned by a supervisor or management representative. Assist management as appropriate, to ensure all environmental and safety regulations as well as best practices are met and/or exceeded. Ensure the proper segregation and labeling of all waste products and recyclables and ensure waste minimization is practiced wherever possible. Adhere to all plant safety rules.
Position Requirements:
Must have completed and provide evidence of having completed an approved apprenticeship program or have a minimum of 8 years' experience and be able to provide evidence of such
Ability to work all shifts
Ability to work overtime when necessary.
Experience:
Should have a variety of experience in the tool & die trade.
Knowledge and use of precision gauging equipment.
Setup, troubleshoot and operate in minimum time.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Skills:
Blueprint reading
Possess good degree of skill in communicating with superiors, subordinates, and other department personnel.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and working knowledge of trigonometry.
Knowledge and use of precision gauging equipment.
Setup, troubleshoot and operate in minimum time.
