GS Engineering, a diverse, high-tech company located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, seeks a full-time Purchasing Agent to join their team in Houghton, Michigan.
The Purchasing Agent supports and manages procurement of supplies, products and services through supply chain partners while also maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, quotes and purchase orders.

WHAT YOU WILL DO.
- Maintain and monitor supply chain records: list of existing suppliers, records, expiration dates, non-disclosure agreements, supplier assessments including facility visits to understand product/service offerings, create supplier performance scorecards, onboard new suppliers, export compliance reviews (ITAR/EAR), industry certifications and registrations, etc.
- Support Request for Quote (RFQ) activity for products and services: work with supply chain manager and project teams to compile RFQ documents listing quality, delivery, technical, and contractual expectations/requirements for quote; submit RFQ packages to applicable suppliers; compile summaries of quote packages.
- Support Purchase Order (PO) activity for products and services: enter POs into operating system; compile PO documents and related material listing quality, delivery, technical, and contractual expectations/requirements for order; submit PO packages to selected suppliers; monitor PO fulfillment status with suppliers and communicate to stakeholders.
- Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments: quote and schedule inbound and outbound shipments with 3rd party shipping providers; track shipments and communicate updates with stakeholders.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.
- Associate degree in Business, Accounting, Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to be successful in this position.
- Minimum of 2 years’ purchasing support experience in a product manufacturing or engineering services environment preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required as you will serve as a liaison for internal and external staff.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing work priorities with a willingness to work flexible hours that may include after-hours support, if needed.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel required; familiarity with operating/ERP systems helpful.
- Proven organization and time management skills with the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work independently to complete tasks.
- Candidates must be United States citizens or lawful permanent residents of the United States and able to participate in obtaining a security clearance from the Department of Defense upon hire.
