Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to maintain professional integrity, confidentiality, respect, and other ethical standards.
- Comprehensive understanding, utilization, and compliance with clinical counseling principles, methods, procedures, and ethical standards of Licensed Professional Counselors in the State of Michigan and the American Counseling Association.
- Understanding of developmental, social, and psychological issues and challenges faced by diverse populations of students at the college level.
- Comprehensive knowledge of college student development, including the needs of diverse learners and traditionally underserved populations.

- Skilled in navigating difficult and emotionally sensitive conversations with others.
- Computer skills including mental health platforms, virtual meeting applications, word processing and data entry, creation and management of spreadsheets, ability to use other College software.
- Ability to collect, organize, and assess data to make informed decisions.
Education, Certification, Licensure:
- Master’s degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work or related field required.
- Michigan Professional Counseling License (LPC) (preferred) or Michigan Professional Limited License (LLPC).
- Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) preferred.
- Eligibility to supervise Masters-level interns preferred.
Experience:
- At least three years of experience working in the field of mental health counseling required. College or university experience preferred.
- Experience working with at-risk individuals preferred.
- Experience working with diverse populations preferred.
- Program development experience preferred.
- Previous experience with Behavior Intervention Strategies preferred.
- Knowledge of the Cleary Act, and Office of Civil Rights-Non Discrimination, Gender-based Harassment and Sexual Misconduct, and student code of conduct strongly preferred.
Working Environment:
- The job responsibilities of this position are performed in an office environment and/or virtually which requires a professional image and demeanor, punctuality, and reliability. The environment has minimal, if any, discomfort due to heat, cold or dust. There is minimal noise within the environment.
- The nature of this position can be emotionally challenging and very stressful, requiring emotional resilience and the ability to work calmly and sensitively, regardless of the situation.
- Responsibilities include travel to other college locations and external meetings or conferences.
- Duties are performed in an independent atmosphere without close direct supervision.
- This position requires intermittent movement around an office and campus setting as well as stationary periods. May be required to move department specific materials across the campus environment.
- Must meet reasonable and sometimes shifting deadlines, quotas, or demands for accuracy, and may be involve in some unpleasant situations.
- Typical work schedule is 8:00am – 4:30pm, however, may require extended or flexible hours based on student needs and/or situations.
