The Munising Beacon is developing an expanded advertising sales and business development position focused on building relationships with businesses, organizations and community partners while identifying and developing new revenue opportunities for the company.
This is not intended to be a traditional high-pressure sales position. We are looking for someone who can build relationships, listen to what a client is trying to accomplish and connect that client with the right combination of Beacon products, services and creative opportunities.
We also want someone who can recognize opportunities we haven't developed yet and help turn good ideas into viable products, partnerships and revenue streams.
Responsibilities may include:
- Developing new advertising accounts
- Maintaining and growing assigned client relationships
- Print advertising sales
- Website and digital advertising
- Newsletter sponsorships
- Event and community sponsorships
- Sports, streaming and podcast sponsorships
- Special sections and special publications
- Insert advertising and distribution opportunities
- Advertising and branding packages
- Creative-service packages
- Developing opportunities involving posters, flyers, social media graphics, logos, business cards and other design services
- Helping clients develop advertising campaigns and promotional concepts
- Developing school, sports and community advertising opportunities
- Identifying and developing regional advertising opportunities
- Identifying new partnerships, products and revenue streams
- Identifying, pursuing or assisting with grant opportunities
- Helping develop recurring and long-term revenue opportunities
- Maintaining accurate sales and client records
- Following up on leads and developing a consistent sales pipeline
- Working with editorial, design and management teams to coordinate client projects
Proposed Compensation:
- Starting wage of $15 per hour
- 10% commission on qualifying net collected revenue originated or materially developed by the representative
- Approved business mileage reimbursed at the applicable IRS business mileage rate
- Flexible hours based on workload, sales activity and performance
- The position is not limited to 10 hours per week and has the opportunity to grow with performance and revenue development
The 10% commission may apply to qualifying:
- Print advertising
- Digital and website advertising
- Newsletter advertising and sponsorships
- Advertising packages and campaigns
- Sports sponsorships
- Streaming and broadcast sponsorships
- Podcast sponsorships
- Event and community sponsorships
- Inserts
- Special sections and publications
- Creative and design projects
- New partnerships
- Grants and grant-funded opportunities
- Other revenue opportunities originated or materially developed by the representative
Commission will be calculated on qualifying revenue actually collected after applicable discounts, credits, refunds or adjustments.
Some existing or publisher-managed accounts may be designated as protected accounts. However, new revenue developed within an existing account may be commission-eligible when the representative is directly responsible for generating that additional business.
The goal is to give the representative room to earn commission not only through traditional advertising sales, but also by helping develop new products, partnerships and revenue opportunities for the Beacon.
The first 90 days will serve as an introductory period to evaluate reliability, communication, sales activity, account service, recordkeeping, initiative and development of a viable sales pipeline.
