Design Release Engineer(s) needed to work in Farmington Hills, MI and various and unanticipated locations throughout the U.S. to utilize NX CAD software for the design and development of automotive seating systems, ensure ergonomic comfort, vehicle occupant package studies, and Meat to Metal checks. Lead and execute Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R) for seat comfort and foam projects, ensure that all design specifications and standards are met or exceeded. Conduct Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) to identify potential failure modes in seat designs and develop strategies to mitigate risks. Choose appropriate materials and foam hardness for seats, balance comfort, durability, and cost-effectiveness. Evaluate seat designs for ergonomic factors, ensure optimal comfort and support for a wide range of body types. Work closely with other engineering departments, suppliers, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration of seat designs into vehicle models. Address and resolve issues that arise during the design, testing, or manufacturing phases, employing strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach. Manage timelines and resources effectively, ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget. Utilize Microsoft Office Suite for documentation, presentation, and data analysis related to seat comfort engineering tasks. Conduct research to understand customer needs and market trends, apply insights to the development of innovative and comfortable seating solutions.
Must have a Master's Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, plus two (2) years of automotive engineering experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Design Release Engineer, Body Component Engineer, Project Engineer, or related position. The two (2) years of automotive engineering experience must include experience with NX, CATIA, Hyper Mesh, Abaqus, MSC Marc, and MSC Mentat. In the alternative, we will accept a Bachelor's Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, plus five (5) years of progressive post-Bachelor’s Degree automotive engineering experience. Two (2) years of the five (5) years of progressive post-Bachelor's Degree automotive engineering experience must include experience with NX, CATIA, Hyper Mesh, Abaqus, MSC Marc, and MSC Mentat. All experience may be acquired concurrently. Travel and/or relocation may be required. Frequency of travel approximately 10% per year. International travel is not required.
