Position Overview
The Produce Manager provides overall leadership for the Produce Department and is responsible for all daily operations, including sales performance, profitability, merchandising, inventory control, food safety, and team leadership. This position ensures an exceptional customer experience, a clean and well-merchandised department, and consistent execution of company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Experience & Team Leadership

Hold team members accountable for delivering outstanding customer service

Build a positive, collaborative work environment that supports teamwork, respect, and high morale

Maintain awareness of customer flow and needs; adjust staffing or tasks to ensure customer satisfaction

Respond promptly and professionally to customer questions and concerns
Operational Excellence

Monitor, manage, and achieve sales goals and purchasing targets

Maintain accurate product assortment, pricing, signage, and inventory levels

Build and maintain attractive, eye-catching produce displays

Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and food-handling standards

Lead special projects and departmental initiatives as assigned
Vendor & Cross-Department Collaboration

Develop strong working relationships with internal department leaders

Partner with vendors to coordinate deliveries, product availability, and promotions

Ensure consistent, high-quality retail execution throughout the department
Skills & Qualifications

Strong knowledge of produce, buying, pricing, merchandising, and inventory management

Food Safety Certification required or must be obtained within 6 months

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer-relationship skills

Proven ability to motivate, train, and lead a team

Ability to teach and coach others positively and effectively

Solid understanding of competitor landscape and market trends

Advanced problem-solving, decision-making, and delegation skills

Proficient math skills for analyzing financial performance and inventory
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Ability to stand or walk 6–8 hours per shift

Frequent bending, squatting, twisting, reaching, pushing, and pulling

Use of tools/equipment: box cutters, pallet jacks, ladders, and related items
