The University of Michigan Law School is looking for a dedicated Computer Specialist to join our Law IT team. You will install, configure, and maintain workstations and software, including customization, security, integration, and troubleshooting. Your role will include monitoring, tuning, and ensuring the integrity and recoverability of workstation/server data. Additionally, you will provide basic networking support to ensure seamless connectivity and communication across the department's systems.
You will report to the IT Operations Manager 100% onsite at the UM Ann Arbor Central Campus.
- Support Law student technology by managing policies, security, and providing technical assistance for legal clinic and journal work, providing level-1 computer support, and assisting with exam software and processes.
- Manage inventory and hardware rotation/updating.
- In collaboration with other information technology staff, maintain devices and software, including customization, security, integration, and troubleshooting.
- Investigate, diagnose and resolve hardware, software, security, and network problems.
- Update, prioritize, and resolve faculty and staff support tickets for a variety of devices and configurations.
- Support onboarding for new faculty and staff
- Assist Law IT team using scripts and other management tools to automate software installation, security patches, and managing updates to hundreds of computers on and off site
- Collaborate with the LawAV team to provide classroom support during high-demand periods
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in computer-related field and/or equivalent combination of education, certification and experience.
- One or more years of experience supporting and administering Microsoft Windows and macOS operating systems
- One or more years of experience providing technical computer support
- Some experience creating and supporting operating system load sets for Windows and macOS.
- Have basic networking skills to support IT infrastructure, troubleshoot connectivity issues, monitor security and activate ports
- Move devices weighing up to 50 pounds throughout the Law School to offices and classrooms.
