JOB SUMMARY: Saginaw Valley State University, a DII member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference invites applications for the position of Part-time Assistant Coach for Strength and Conditioning to assist the head coach to develop, promote and supervise all facets of the Strength and Conditioning program; assist the head coach to develop and execute strategies for the physical preparedness of student-athletes for highly visible regional and national competition; assist the head coach to organize and direct all aspects of the Strength and Conditioning programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to all applicable NCAA and conference compliance rules and regulations.
- Ensuring that all relevant institutional, conference and NCAA rules and regulations are followed including, but not limited to player eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, scheduling and academic progress.
- Ensure compliance with all institutional, conference and NCAA rules and regulations by student-athletes and sport-related staff.
- Abides by NCAA Bylaws 10.1 and 11.1 regarding ethical conduct and the responsibility to positively contribute to a campus culture of NCAA rules compliance.
- Responsible for the program design, organization, and implementation of Strength and Conditioning activities as assigned by Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
- Assist in collective departmental and individual record keeping for all programming, testing, and student-athlete assessments.
- Establishing and maintaining professional interdepartmental relationships within intercollegiate athletics and academic programs.
- Assisting in the purchase, maintenance and inventory of all equipment.
- Assist in directing and managing recruiting efforts as solicited by members of respective sport assignments.
- Assist in designing and implementing off-season training programs for student-athletes.
- Assist in all fundraising needs for the department.
- Maintain appropriate communications with student-athletes.
- Assist with collaborating and maintaining continuing education programs.
- Perform related and other duties as assigned by Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Supervision is received from Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance / Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Supervision is exercised over Graduate Assistants and undergraduate Strength and Conditioning Interns.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Nutrition, or similar field.
- CSCS certified within 90 days of start date.
- Collegiate strength and conditioning graduate assistantship/internship experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Exceptional leadership skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a diverse community.
- Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.
- Willingness to travel nights and weekends.
- Willingness to travel with programs as requested.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Nutrition, or similar field.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid Certified.
- Three years of collegiate strength and conditioning experience at the collegiate level or higher.
