Job Description:
Assistant Professor or Instructor of English— One-Year Temporary
SVSU invites applicants for a one-year, temporary position to be hired either as an Assistant Professor of English, with a completed Ph.D. by the time of appointment, or as an Instructor of English, if ABD. This one-year temporary position begins July 1, 2026. Teaching responsibilities are in-person, on-campus (24 credit hours/year). Course load will be primarily in introductory and sophomore-level composition. A preferred secondary area would be creative non-fiction. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate fully in departmental activities, such as advising students, recruiting new students, and supporting outreach initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications

Earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in English or a closely related field to be considered for the rank of Assistant Professor. ABD candidates will be considered for the rank of Instructor.

Demonstrated success in teaching first-year writing courses

Experience teaching and mentoring a broad spectrum of undergraduate students

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software quickly.

Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community
