Job Description:

The City of Saginaw is seeking a skilled Filtration Maintenance Person III to perform mechanical maintenance, repair, and overhaul of specialized plant machinery and equipment. This role also functions as a Plant Operator “A” when necessary, operating pumping stations, generators, and related equipment.
This position reports to the Plant Chief Maintenance Foreman, Maintenance Foreman, or Operating Foreman and may oversee the work of others.

Major Duties:
- Perform technical, mechanical, hydraulic, and plumbing maintenance/repair tasks.
- Maintain and repair diesel engines, pumps, valves, and plant mechanical equipment.
- Assist the Plant Electrician in maintaining diesel generators, motors, and electrical equipment.
- Operate machinist tools (lathe, boring mill, milling machine, drill presses).
- Use specialized hand/power tools, including welding equipment.
- Perform plumbing and steam-fitting tasks.
- Operate pressure gauges and test devices.
- Perform duties of Plant Operator “A” as needed.
- Act as lead worker and oversee other staff when required.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Experience:
- 2 years as a Filtration Plant Maintenance II OR experience maintaining stationary engines, large water pumps, and boiler equipment.
- 2 years of machine shop training and related math classes OR 4 years of machine shop experience.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Computer data entry skills (inventory and maintenance tracking).
- Lead worker experience.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical principles.
- Understanding of safety practices and experience using PPE.
- Certifications:
- Ability to complete overhead crane and forklift operator training.
- Obtain F-4 State of Michigan Operator Certification within 4 test cycles of hire.
- Licenses: Valid Michigan Driver’s License.
- Other Requirements:
- Acceptable attendance record.
- Must pass performance test and interview (70% or higher).

- Physical Requirements:
- Frequent lifting (50 lbs), bending, stooping, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
- Must be able to work in uncomfortable conditions, including heights and hazardous environments.
- Safety Requirements:
- Must use self-contained breathing apparatus and participate in emergency response teams.
- Work with hazardous chemicals (Chlorine Gas, Sodium Hypochlorite, Diesel Fuel, etc.).
- Ability to work in noisy environments with hearing protection.
