Position: Consumer Loan Officer I
Employment Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Branch Leader
Position Overview
The primary purpose of this position is to assist Members First Credit Union to deliver on its mission: To encourage a better tomorrow. Essential Duties
- Loan Authority Limits: Secured $50k and Unsecured $10k.
- Answer questions effectively and provide information as requested.
- Review loan applications from members to determine feasibility of approving loan requests.
- Calculate debt ratios on applicants.
- Create opportunities for expanded member relationships by determining member needs for additional products and services.
- Approve loan requests for members who meet loan qualifications or refer applications as per the loan policy.
- Deny loan applications and prepare adverse action letters as required by law.
- Prepare all documents pertaining to the loan.
- Secure all documents and signatures to perfect any liens, notes, and security agreements.
- Obtain proof of income and insurance on collateral when applicable.
- Ensure payment options are discussed and documented.
- Attain the Financial Counselor Certification (CCUFC) through CUNA within the first 6 months.
- Attain the State of Michigan Credit Producers License within 6 months.
- Work in branch/office role, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. M-F, with Saturday coverage as needed, and attend meetings or trainings outside of normal hours.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Quote total payment, including Protection Solutions package.
- Educate members on Protection Solutions package options.
- Participate in monthly developmental coaching.
- Actively participate in Credit Union initiatives and achieve assigned financial service goals.
- Build relationships with current and new members, offering products and services to fulfill their financial needs.
- Oversee onboarding to build relationships with new members.
- Ensure members are fully served.
Other Responsibilities
- Attend educational functions as required.
- Maintain good knowledge of all State and Federal laws governing the loan process.
- Maintain certification of FICEP.
- Stay knowledgeable about Credit Union services, policies, and procedures.
- Implement new procedures efficiently and effectively.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

- Understand State and Federal laws governing Credit Union operations (e.g., BSA, Patriot Act, Regulation CC, Regulation E, Truth in Savings, Truth in Lending).
- Work overtime, attend meetings, seminars, and travel as needed.
- Demonstrate courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in all interactions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move or transport items, equipment, and tools up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to remain stationary or at a workstation for long periods.
Work Environment
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area.
- Routinely clean and disinfect work areas, including teller stations, desk surfaces, phones, and electronic equipment.
- Protect the confidentiality of Credit Union staff and members by securing sensitive materials when away.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One to three years of similar or related experience.
- Working knowledge of loan processing and credit analysis.
- Experience operating a personal computer.
- Skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Attain the Financial Counselor Certification (CCUFC) through CUNA within the first 6 months.
