Recreational Therapist
Temporary Position: Starting in January for approximately 12 weeks
Overview
The Recreational Therapist is responsible for the coordination and planning of therapeutic and recreational activities for participants.
What you’ll do
- Conducts assessments of participants and communicates participant changes with team members.
- Coordinates 24-hour care delivery.
- Develops specific therapeutic programs to include recreational and social activities.
- Records progress reports in the participant's medical record.
- Develops, implements and supervises the Activity Program.
- Plans and provides both group and individual activities, including community outings and special events.
- Communicates with skilled nursing or assisted living locations the therapeutic needs of participants. Assesses participants’ activities and involvement and collaborates with team members.
- Develops a monthly calendar of events.
- Attends team meetings and takes part in participant care planning.
- Serves as a resource to team members and coordinates volunteer activities at the center.
- Demonstrates active participation in QI processes
- Coordinates with various community resources.
What it takes
- Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Therapy or Bachelor of Art from an accredited college
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Certificate
- CPR certification
- 2 years’ experience in a social or recreational program providing recreation services to the elderly population (preferred)
- Experience coordinating services for a frail elderly population within the past 5 years (preferred)
