The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) has an opening for an Equipment Mechanic Helper in Lansing, MI, as part of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, AFL-CIO, Local Union 352.
Position Summary: Performs maintenance on BWL vehicles, including automobiles, light and heavy-duty trucks, gas and electric vehicles, and other associated equipment.
Essential Functions: Performs duties involved with manufacturer’s maintenance programs including oil changes, filter changes and lubrication. Operates all types of BWL equipment.
- Operates and maintains hydraulic hoists for vehicle lifting.
- Operates tire mounting and balancing equipment to safely change tires on vehicles.
- Maintains records and cross-references and selects filters for all types of equipment.
- Performs routine housekeeping duties to clean shop area.
- Monitors and replenishes shop supplies of diesel fuel, chassis lube, antifreeze, glacial blue and brake/power steering fluids. Drains waste oil and/or antifreeze barrels and drain pans.
- Refuels service trucks.
- Monitors and refills on-board oil, fuel and antifreeze containers.
- Washes vehicles and equipment.
- Refers to shop manuals and manufacturer manuals, service schedules and other related data to accomplish preventive maintenance, troubleshooting of equipment malfunctions.
- Keeps equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Performs other related duties as responsibilities necessitate.
- Required to follow Safety Manual and wear required personal protective equipment.
- Attends training for safety awareness for skills improvement as required by supervisor, BWL or governmental agency such as MIOSHA.
Pay Range: $30.88 - $37.50 per hour
