Job Description Summary
Michigan Tech and Center for Student Mental Health and Well-being, a unit within Student Affairs is seeking candidates to fill this position. This position plans and provides individual or group therapy, crisis intervention and workshops dealing with various issues relating to mental health and wellness.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
1. Provide confidential mental health counseling assistance to students and facilitate referrals to other agencies when appropriate.
2. Maintain clinical documentation.
3. Plan and implement group counseling programs.
4. Present workshops and guest lectures.
5. Provide outreach programming.
6. Provide crisis intervention with rotating on-call assignment.
7. Keep appraised of all regulations, i.e. mental health laws, federal guidelines and legal interpretations.
8. Participate on university committees as appropriate.
9. Provide consultation with faculty and staff as needed.
10. Other duties as assigned.

* Develop, propose, and manage approved programming budgets based on data and event requirements.
* Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate any approved and assigned student employees.
* Participate and actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives and strategies and apply knowledge to everyday work.
* Assist with collecting program data and other evidence to better understand student needs, student learning, and programmatic formative and summative outcomes.
* Ensure that office databases and other record-keeping systems are updated, accurate, and audit-ready.
* Submit monthly, annual, and ad hoc productivity reports.
* Support and assist department and divisional leaders in efforts to enhance brand, operations, services, visibility, and impact internally and externally, especially within the profession.
* Perform other mission-critical and position-specific duties as requested based on operational needs (e.g., all-hands-on-deck events such as orientation, welcome week, homecoming, commencement, and other university traditions).
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)
* Masters degree in an appropriate accredited mental health training program (social work, mental health counseling, psychology, etc).
Required Experience (minimum requirements)
* Appropriate mental health licensure, certification or documentation of eligibility for the state of Michigan.
* Experience using personal computers and basic software packages.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
* Two years of post-graduate experience in a mental health setting or other relevant clinical experience.
* Experience in crisis intervention.
* Experience in direct counseling and assessment in a university setting.
* Demonstrated knowledge of using an electronic medical records system.
* Experience in facilitating group counseling.
* Experience providing outreach and supportive programming related to mental health.

* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of HIPAA.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
* Ability to maintain timely clinical documentation.
* Communication skills: ability to communicate effectively with individuals across racial, ethnic, cultural, and other boundaries and styles through interpersonal, oral, written, and group presentation modalities.
* Self-management skills: ability to manage time effectively, learn and fully contribute to overall departmental tasks and goals, and offer suggestions for enhancing contributions to organization.
* Event and program planning skills: ability to plan and organize events/programs/services from conception to full execution including identifying and addressing important details.
