A research laboratory technician position is available in LSA Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology, University of Michigan ( https://lsa.umich.edu/mcdb ). The ideal candidate should be self-motivated and be interested in learning and studying cancer therapeutics and subcellular organelle interactions using multidisciplinary approaches, to include cellular and molecular biology, immunochemistry, cell culture and live cell imaging. The research technician will work closely with the Principal Investigator, PhD students, and undergraduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to play an integral role in both conducting experiments and lab management.
Conduct experiments - prepare basic solutions and perform routine experiments as assigned (i.e. DNA plasmid work, western blot, cell culture, immunocytochemistry, live cell imaging...etc). Research will involve molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, tissue dissection, and mouse husbandry.
Data analysis/Lab administrative/organizational work - Conduct analysis of results and may begin interpretation of results. Maintain laboratory notebook. Ordering, inventory, keeping track of expenditures, interacting with lab safety, collecting packages, setting up and maintaining lab equipment. Functional supervision of 1-2 undergraduate students.
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field with 1-2 years experiences in an active research laboratory. It is essential that the candidate be able to work independently, is responsible, self-motivated, and able to work as part of a team in general lab duties. Experience with single cell imaging/microscopy use is a plus.
This is a 1 year term limited appointment with the possibility of renewal.
