Position Summary
Performs a wide variety of lab tests on specimens using automated and manual methods; performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs of complex lab equipment and calibrates instruments in order to ensure reliable results; evaluates laboratory results for discrepancies in order to ensure proper reporting; evaluates new techniques, instruments and procedures in order to determine the usefulness and practicality for use in the laboratory; takes inventory of supplies in order to facilitate ordering; interacts with other laboratory personnel to ensure quality and consistency of results reported; rapidly and accurately enters test orders and results into a LIM system; communicates procedures and test results to laboratory staff and clients (veterinarians) in an accurate and professional manner; stores, organizes, and disposes of laboratory specimens; and interacts with other laboratory personnel regarding sharing of specimens, workload volume, and clarifying orders.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four year college degree program in a related science field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a high volume diagnostic laboratory techniques; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) or database system experience; experience in a high volume diagnostic laboratory, excellent verbal and written communication skills; and certification as a Medical Technologist or eligible as MT(ASCP) or CLS (NCA).

Work Hours
