Position Summary
Dr. Hickner's Laboratory is in search of a research assistant with a keen interest in synthesizing and processing pre-ceramic polymers. This individual will play a pivotal role in supporting a new collaborative venture focusing on polymer conversions and will coordinate research efforts across a dynamic interdisciplinary team. Alongside the primary research duties outlined, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in various lab and CHEMS departmental activities, such as aiding in the training of undergraduate and/or graduate students, report writing, and grant writing. This position is initially for one year, with the possibility of renewal annually contingent upon performance and funding availability. Compensation includes salary and fringe benefits for the duration of one year.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related field by the start of the position; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in overseeing research projects and laboratory operations, operating and maintaining a variety of laboratory equipment, performing specialized and difficult analytical and research techniques, and designing research experiments in an area related to research being performed; may require software specific to the area of research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position may require special licensing or certification in the field related to the area of employment.
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a strong chemistry background and significant experience with the synthesis and characterization of polymeric materials and have strong analytical and chemical synthesis lab skills.
