The position is jointly funded by grants from the two departments with an initial 3-year term. The successful candidate will work with researchers in both departments on different but related research projects. In the GEO Department, the candidate will work with Prof. Lifeng Luo on a research project to create a better system for predicting droughts in the U.S. NOAA Research’s Modeling, Analysis, Predictions and Projections (MAPP) Program is supporting this effort through a competitive grant. The MSU research team will collaborate with researchers at NOAA’s National Weather Service to develop a Land Information System (LIS)-based modeling system to produce automated probabilistic and categorical drought prediction at subseasonal to seasonal time scales. In the EES department, the candidate will work on several projects(NIFA, NOAA, and NSF) examining the influence of human activities such as irrigation on climate.
