Job Overview
The Test Engineer is responsible for developing and executing test plans in a hands-on test laboratory environment to evaluate products, assemblies, and materials against performance, durability, and BIFMA standards. This role conducts physical product testing, monitors product wear and mechanical performance, identifies potential failure risks, and provides pass/fail recommendations based on established acceptance criteria. In addition to leading product validation through Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R) processes, the Test Engineer oversees the operation and preventative maintenance of testing equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results. Working closely with engineers and technicians, this position drives problem-solving and continuous improvement efforts, coordinates testing activities with external testing laboratories and certification partners, and supports the design and implementation of new test methods and equipment. The position also provides daily direction to technicians and trains team members on proper testing methods and procedures. This opportunity is open to candidates ranging from early-career professionals to experienced testing engineers. Job Responsibilities
Manage complex quality improvement projects, utilizing Lean Six Sigma and other methodologies.
Develop and implement quality management systems (QMS) to ensure compliance with ISO and other relevant standards.
Lead tours of the test lab for customers and other stakeholders, explaining testing methods, standards, and provide answers to questions.
Conduct and oversee product testing within the test laboratory, evaluating performance, durability, safety, and compliance against established standards.
Maintain, calibrate, and coordinate preventative maintenance activities for testing equipment to ensure accurate, reliable, and uninterrupted testing operations.
Coordinate testing projects with external laboratories and certification partners, including scheduling, sample preparation, documentation, and review of test results.
Conduct thorough root cause analysis to identify the underlying causes of quality issues.
Develop and implement supplier quality programs to ensure the quality of incoming materials and components.
Serve as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and support to other departments on quality-related matters.
Mentor and develop junior quality engineers or technicians, providing guidance and feedback to enhance their skills.
Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in quality management.
Must be able to perform all essential job functions with/without accommodation.
Uses office automation, communication, software, and tools used in Haworth office environment.
Performs other duties within scope as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Design, or Engineering Technology or similar relevant field of study
Education Equivalency: Associate's Degree plus 2 years additional related experience OR 4 years additional related experience if no post-secondary education
Work Experience: 2+ years experience within a testing environment with Bachelor's Degree OR 3 years experience with Master's Degree
Must be able to work onsite full-time in our Test Lab located in Holland, MI. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.,

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with product and durability testing in a manufacturing environment
Experience testing furniture products and components
Knowledge of BIFMA and UL standards
Ability to interpret test standards, specifications, and acceptance criteria
Experience developing and executing product test plans
Knowledge of Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R) processes
Experience with electrical and mechanical test equipment
Proficiency using measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers
Experience with test reporting, data analysis, and documentation
Mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
Experience designing, building, or modifying test fixtures and equipment
Programming or automation experience for test equipment and data collection
Understanding of product reliability and quality assurance principles
Ability to work independently and manage multiple testing priorities
Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
