This role leads the end-to-end design, development, and orchestration of a complex Risk Platform hosted in a Zero Trust Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment. The engineer will partner closely with architects, product owners, and cross-functional teams to modernize the platform, improve user experience, strengthen CI/CD and delivery practices, and ensure scalable, maintainable solutions that align with Ford standards and business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and orchestration of the Risk Platform in Zero Trust GCP.
- Partner with architects to plan and execute technology refresh initiatives, ensuring performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Improve user experience through strong URL management, analytics integration, localization support, and component interoperability.
- Drive continuous improvement and expansion of reusable code and shared components.
- Design and implement robust CI/CD pipelines and scalable delivery processes to accelerate development and support dynamic content across multiple products.
- Mentor junior engineers, lead code reviews, and champion best practices for code quality, testing, and performance optimization.
- Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to align technical solutions with business goals, fostering innovation, teamwork, and InnerSource contributions.
Required Skills / Technical Competencies
- Full-stack software engineering experience (front-end + back-end)
- Back-end development with Java (8+) and Spring (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security)
- Front-end development using React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS
- Strong understanding of RESTful API design and service development
- Hands-on experience with GCP services, including:
- Cloud Run
- Cloud SQL (including PostgreSQL)
- Cloud Pub/Sub
- BigQuery
- Strong SQL skills with proven ability to navigate and extract data from legacy relational databases (e.g., DB2)
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams across the full SDLC (design, development, testing, deployment, operations/support)
- Proficiency with source control (Git) and modern engineering collaboration practices
Preferred Skills
- Python (including exposure to “agent”/automation patterns)
- Artificial Intelligence / Expert Systems and Machine Learning familiarity
Required Experience / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- 15+ years of professional software development experience with a strong focus on Java
- Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL) and ORM frameworks (e.g., Hibernate, JPA)
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Preferred Experience
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, and/or GCP)
- Containerization and orchestration experience (Docker, Kubernetes)
- CI/CD implementation experience (e.g., Cloud Build, Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps)
- Messaging / eventing experience (e.g., Kafka, Pub/Sub, RabbitMQ)
- Testing frameworks experience (e.g., JUnit, Mockito, Selenium, Jest, React Testing Library)
- DevOps principles and performance tuning/optimization of Java applications
- Strong understanding of web application security best practices
