Role Summary
Under the supervision of the RN, the Paramedic (EMT-P) provides direct patient care in the Trauma & Emergency Center. Care is delivered according to Bronson Methodist Hospital policies, procedures, and approved competencies. The Paramedic provides safe, confidential, and age-appropriate care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care as delegated by the RN

Implement appropriate interventions and treatments

Administer medications and therapies per approved protocols

Maintain patient comfort and safety

Assist with patient education and individualized care plans
-
Perform advanced skills and procedures as outlined in department competencies

Maintain clinical competency for all assigned tasks

Participate in ongoing education, peer review, and professional development
-
Support a positive, collaborative, and professional work environment
-
Uphold ethical standards, patient rights, and confidentiality

Serve as a patient advocate

Participate in quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives
Qualifications
-
High school diploma or equivalent required
-
Completion of an accredited Paramedic program required
-
Three years of pre-hospital Paramedic experience preferred
-
Current Michigan EMT-P (Paramedic) license required
-
BCLS required
-
ACLS required
-
PALS preferred; required within 1 year of hire
-
PHTLS preferred; required/maintained after hire
-
BTLS preferred; required/maintained after hire
-
Previous hospital experience preferred
-
Strong communication and customer service skills required
-
Basic computer skills preferred
Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Clean, well-lit, temperature-controlled environment

Occasional exposure to mechanical equipment, hazardous conditions, infectious diseases, fumes, or chemicals

Regular patient assessment using auscultation, visualization, palpation, percussion, and manipulation

Frequent standing, walking, talking, hearing, and fine motor skills

Occasional stooping, crouching, kneeling, and lifting/moving up to 50 lbs
-
Must be able to move quickly in emergency situations

Requires good body mechanics and full range of motion

Vision requirements include close vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus

May encounter stressful or emotionally difficult situations
