General Summary: This position reports to the Probate Deputy Court Administrator and the
Court Administrator. This position is responsible for the performance of a variety of data entry and clerical support in matters of juvenile delinquency, neglect abuse, personal protection, etc. Performs the duties of Deputy Juvenile Registrar as defined by statute or request by the Court, prepares forms and legal documents and provides clerical support for the Court. The Deputy Juvenile Register will also be responsible for recording hearings with the Juvenile Referee and will serve as the recording alternate for the Probate and Juvenile Court Judges recorder.
Essential Functions:
1. Primary court recorder for the Juvenile Referee on a shared schedule with the Deputy Probate Register.
2. Provides back-up as a recorder for the Probate and Family Court Judge on an as needed basis.
3. Responsible for providing transcripts of hearings on appeal or as requested by attorneys.
4. Processes initial dependent neglect petitions and scheduling of preliminary hearings, assignment of attorneys and service on interested parties.
5. Serves in a receptionist capacity, i.e., greeting walk-in visitors, answering telephone calls, notifying professional staff of appointments, sorting and delivering court mail.
6. Receives and receipts reimbursement of fines and restitution at the counter and via telephone.
7. Responsible for the informal delinquency docket for both the Referee and Juvenile Court Officers.
8. Truancy Court coordination and tracking are done in conjunction with the Truancy Court Coordinator. Also notifies schools of students on formal probation.
9. Prepare orders following informal delinquency and truancy hearings and make the appropriate AS400 entries into the case file.
10. Process abstracts and issues fingerprint orders for all delinquent youth. Maintains outstanding in-custody orders and re-issues/disperses in-custody orders, order to apprehend and pick-up orders.
11. Make entries into AS400 and keep the juvenile case file current (i.e. notations on program completion, probation status, placement changes and termination of the case.
12. Assists the Juvenile Register with review of Personal Protection Petitions for approval by a jurist.
13. Consistent and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position.
14. The Deputy Juvenile Register will complete all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Must have a High School degree or its equivalent and be able to demonstrate a capacity for data entry, spelling and accuracy.
• An ideal candidate will have experience/education in legal matters.
• Valid Michigan Driver’s License.
• Must have the ability to become certified as a court recorder within one year from date of employment or hold a current court reporter’s certification.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to sit most of the time and being mobile or stand for brief periods of time.
• Ability to move objects according to the following weight and frequency: generally, up to 20 pounds of force from zero amount of time up to one-third of the time.
• Must perform essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities desired:
• Ability to speak and write effectively.
• Must be able to demonstrate an ability to efficiently use word processing, data entry and analysis programs.
• Ability to relate effectively to the public and individuals that enter the office.
