Detailer Job Overview:
Detailer is a professional who is responsible for creating detailed drawings and blueprints of various weldments, large steel structures with skin plates, dam gates, bridges, and any other projects that MIW may be awarded. These detailed drawings are used by fabricators and welders are used to understand the design and layout and provide the information needed to fully assembly the designed configuration. MIW Detailers use specialized software and tools to create these drawings, including 3D Modeling software, SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
Detailer's Job Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed drawings and plans for projects using software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD and other drafting tools.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure accuracy and completeness of plans
- Utilize knowledge of various fabrication processes, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
- Recommend changes to the product which would improve cost, delivery, or quality
- Accurately document engineering drawing changes, bill of materials, and related documents
- Participate in overall product strategy, development, and manufacturing coordination for new, existing, and emerging products.
- Develop bills of material, tolerance and dimensioning of products, welding and manufacturing symbols, and other requirements to produce the product.
- Prepare submittal packages for approval and communicate all information requests to customer or project engineer
Detailer Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or another related field.
- Proficiency and strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) suite of applications, AutoCAD, and MRP/ERP system experience CAD software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks, with 3D modeling capabilities.
- Previous experience in the similar fabrication industry.
- High school diploma or equivalent required, associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field preferred
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and other drafting software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
