The Principal Business Development Manager for NorthStar Clean Energy applies a sophisticated combination of technical, commercial, project and risk management knowledge to complete development activities that enable the construction of renewable energy generation projects (wind, solar and storage) projects, comprising up to $150 million investment or more, within the U.S. and fulfill the Company's growth plans. Manages transmission interconnection studies, agreements and modifications for projects in the queue through development and construction. Builds and maintains positive relationships with business partners, regulators, landowners and other stakeholders to manage successful development. Assembles and manages multi-disciplinary teams of internal and external resources that support evaluation, due diligence, negotiation, contracting, and development of renewable energy assets.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Manages and completes, with support from internal and external consultants and contractors, the full spectrum development activities necessary to advance partially developed renewable assets into design and construction and eventually commercial operation while mitigating company risks
Assemble and manage internal/external teams that evaluate, acquire land rights, conduct resource assessments, interconnect, siting studies, layouts, preliminary engineering, permit, obtain community acceptance, engineer, finance, construct, operate and maintain renewable energy projects that meet customer needs
Evaluate, manage and advance transmission interconnection related activities with the transmission system operator for multiple project assests
Builds and maintains positive relationships with business partners, regulators, landowners and other stakeholders to manage successful development. Assembles and manages multi-disciplinary teams of internal and external resources that support evaluation, due diligence, negotiation, contracting, and development of renewable energy assets
Develops, maintains, and leverages strategic business relationships and networking opportunities with entities including but not limited to business leaders, professional organizations and government agencies, leading to new referral source relationships and name and service recognition for the business. Tracks and reports on progress toward successful contract execution and/or completion of development activities
Coordinates with the Finance Department on preparation of valuation financial models and provides support to the Project Management Department's execution and oversight of construction and to Operations Department's ongoing operations
Develop services agreements, major equipment purchase agreements, and other consulting agreements. engineer, finance, construct, operate and maintain renewable energy projects that meet customer needs and mitigates company risks
Successful application of renewable energy generation technology, development (siting, interconnection, resource assessment, land rights acquisition, studies, permitting, community acceptance, engineering, financing, construction, and operation and maintenance and ongoing performance and compliance
Conducts private and public meetings with project stakeholders, landowners and agencies. Conducts due diligence site visits and evaluates prospective assets for acquisition and represents the company at ongoing development meetings to facilitate on time and on budget completion of development and construction of new assets while mitigating company risks

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Ability to lead team(s) dedicated to operation and maintenance of renewable energy projects
Knowledge of renewable energy generation technology and practice
Ability to analyze customer and development asset opportunities for potential fit with Company's objectives and the customer's needs and prepare business cases, proposals, presentations and close on contracts with customers
Ability to formulate and successfully negotiate renewable energy asset purchase agreements
Ability to identify customer needs (commercial, industrial, munis and co-ops) for utility-scale renewable energy (wind, solar, and storage) projects and consulting
Knowledge of development services, such as siting and development studies, engineering, construction management, and transition into commercial operations
Ability to verify inputs and outputs of financial models using external and internal data sources and analysis and identification of key financial model drivers and assumptions
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills and strong business acumen
Understanding of transmission system interconnection process and requirements
Position Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical field or business degree with equivalent technical experience required
Master's Degree preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) (or capable of obtaining a license) preferred
Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred
