Who We Want
We are seeking a Welding/Steel Detailer for our Flex Air Division located in Fenton, MI. Flex Air focuses on delivering industry-leading, high-performance modular mechanical and electrical systems, as well as Custom HVAC systems in the automotive, semiconductor, healthcare, and education sectors.
We are seeking a skilled Detailer with expertise in SolidWorks. As a Detailer, you will play a vital role in translating conceptual designs into detailed engineering drawings and models, primarily focusing on welding and structural members. You will collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and efficient production of high-quality structural designs.
What You Will Be Doing
- Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings of welding and structural members, primarily using SolidWorks software.
- Collaborate with design engineers and other team members to interpret design concepts and specifications, ensuring accurate representation in the CAD models and drawings.
- Develop and optimize structural designs for manufacturability, considering material selection, bending allowances, tolerance requirements, and assembly constraints.
- Generate accurate bills of materials (BOMs) and production drawings for fabrication and assembly of components.
- Conduct design reviews to identify potential issues or improvements in the design, offering innovative solutions when necessary.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and fabrication teams to address any design-related challenges during the production process.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations in the creation of detailed drawings and models.
- Perform design calculations, simulations, and analysis to validate the integrity and performance of the mechanical designs.
- Stay updated with the latest developments in structural design, manufacturing techniques, and SolidWorks software enhancements.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design processes, tools, and documentation standards.

What Requirements Are Needed
- Experience as a Detailer or similar role, focusing on sheet metal design and SolidWorks software.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, including advanced modeling techniques, assemblies, and structural design tools.
- Strong understanding of welding and structural members, including bending, forming, punching, and welding.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Familiarity with industry standards and codes related to sheet metal design and fabrication.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify and resolve design issues effectively.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional certification in SolidWorks or other relevant CAD software.
- Experience working in industries such as automotive, HVAC, aerospace, or manufacturing.
- Familiarity with other 3D modeling software and analysis tools, such as AutoCAD, CATIA, REVIT, or ANSYS.
