University of Michigan Health-West (Formally Metro Health) is looking for a Trauma Registrar - While this position may work primarily off-site, there will be some required on-site work.
he Trauma Registrar, under direction and supervision of the Director Trauma Services, is accountable for maintaining current and accurate data within the trauma registry by collecting, entering, retrieving and reporting data for all trauma patients treated at Metro Health Hospital and provide supportive documentation qualifying Metro Health as a Trauma Center. This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients. The position provides administrative assistant support to the Director Trauma Services.
Requirements:
- One year of healthcare related clerical experience and/or data entry
- Advanced medical terminology knowledge as evidenced by education or work experience.
- Certification in AIS coding or willingness to obtain this within 1 year of employment
- Experience working with an electronic medical record or EPIC preferred.
- Strong administrative/secretarial skills.
- Demonstrated computer skills including, but not limited to: Microsoft Office (Word and Excel,), Groupwise (e-mail), Powerpoint
- Ability to maintain strictest confidentiality
- Strong organizational skills in an office environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to function independently with minimal supervision
- Knowledge and experience with Xerox copier, Fax machine, and printers.
- Experience as Health Information Technician, Unit secretary, Medical assistant, Nurse, Medical Coder or related position preferred.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Collects trauma patient information through identification of qualifying trauma patients, chart abstraction, and medical records review.
- Accurately enters demographic and hospitalization information into the daily spreadsheet and trauma registry for every trauma patient treated and submits data from the registry as need to the regional, state, or national registry databank
- Assigns injury severity codes using standard coding for trauma registries for all traumatic injuries using doctor/nurses notes, pre-hospital information and radiology reports.
- Prepares monthly summaries and graphic representation of requested trauma statistics.
- Meets deadlines as required by American College of Surgeons for entering data into the registry and submitting data to the state and national databanks or requirements for quality benchmarking.
- Serves as an administrative assistant to the Director Trauma Services for scheduling meetings, communicating with physicians and staff regarding trauma patients and maintaining all required documents for trauma level verification process.
- Retrieves and compiles data for special studies that are IRB approved.
- Participates in trauma database user’s group meetings and periodic training..
- Obtains required certifications and maintains continuing educational hour requirements as per American College of Surgeons requirements.
- Provides EMS and referring hospitals with outcomes data and maintains records of this communication.
