University of Michigan Health-West (Formally Metro Health) is looking for a Fitness Instructor - Community Outreach * Shift varies - Resource.
Duties include but are not limited to the development, coordination, and delivery of community health and/or Healthy Best wellness programs and services. This includes arriving to class location one half hour (30 minutes) prior to class and staying
Requirements:
- Required Licenses and Certification: Must be CPR certified. Must possess and provide a certification to teach fitness classes by a nationally recognized fitness association such as ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NSCA, etc., OR a fitness related degree.
- Minimum Education: High school diploma, bachelor’s degree preferred
- Skills/Abilities: Fitness instructors should be self-motivated, energetic, organized and responsible. They should be good communicators and attentive to their clients' needs, being willing and able to adjust workout programs at the last minute. They should be apt at coordinating schedules and managing time wisely and effectively. Being able to utilize and implement new technology as needed. Must possess knowledge of anatomy, physiology, muscular function, exercise program implementation and safe group exercise procedures. Must possess awareness of safety and risk management. Creates a welcoming, inclusive environment for all participants. Early morning, evening and weekend hours may be required.
- Minimum Work Experience: 1 year of exercise instructor experience preferred
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for delivery of fitness classes and services for community and employees. This includes room set up, take down, restoring the room to default set up.
- Explains and enforces safety rules and regulations and the use of exercise equipment.
- Offer alternatives during classes to accommodate different levels of fitness.
- Plan routines, choose appropriate music, and choose different movements for each set of muscles, depending on participants' capabilities and limitations.
- Observe participants and inform them of corrective measures necessary for skill improvement.
- Teach proper breathing techniques used during physical exertion.
- Instruct participants in maintaining exertion levels in order to maximize benefits from exercise routines.
- All other related essential functions and responsibilities required by the Metro Health.
