A refuse collection truck driver, also known as a garbage truck driver, is responsible for safely operating a large vehicle to collect and transport trash, recycling, and other solid waste materials from designated locations to disposal sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Operation -
Safely drive and maneuver the refuse truck through residential and commercial areas, following established routes.
Waste Collection -
Collect and load garbage, recyclables, and other waste materials from bins and containers.
Route Management -
Follow pre-determined routes and adjust as needed for traffic or other unforeseen circumstances.
Equipment Operation -
Operate automated or semi-automated hoisting devices to lift and dump refuse bins.
Safety -
Ensure the safe operation of the truck and adhere to traffic laws and safety regulations.
Maintenance -
Perform daily pre-trip inspections of the vehicle and report any necessary maintenance issues.
Communication -
Communicate with dispatchers and supervisors regarding route progress, delays, or other issues.
Customer Service -
Address customer concerns or questions regarding trash collection or recycling.
Other Duties -
May include cleaning the truck, assisting with loading and unloading, or making special pickups of recyclable materials.
