Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently looking for a Manager in the Vehicle Software Group to lead the Vehicle Control Software Integration team at our Superior Township, Michigan facility.
Our Team
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is the North American design, technology, and engineering arm of the Korea-based Hyundai Motor Group. HATCI focuses on the development of Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles and features for the North American market.
The recently established vehicle software group (VSW) was created to develop software for Infotainment, ADAS / Autonomous Driving, Vehicle Control, and E/E Architecture. We are focused on developing high-quality software that can be incorporated into existing and upcoming vehicle models.
The Position
The Vehicle Control Software department at Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) undertakes various innovation projects related to vehicle motion and energy control software and develops unique selling point features for the next generation of vehicles for the North American market. The Vehicle Control Software Integration Manager leads a team of engineers who integrate, test, benchmark, and demonstrate proof-of-concept control algorithms and features. This role requires experience in embedded software, calibration and testing, rapid control prototyping and a commitment to innovation. This position reports to the senior manager of Vehicle Control Software.
Core Responsibilities
Lead integration and prototyping of new vehicle control software algorithms for the North American market
Integrate creative control concepts using advanced technologies like AI, machine learning, and high-resolution navigation data into drivable proof-of-concept demonstrations
Improve Hyundai/Kia/Genesis production controls by integrating, testing, and refining algorithms
Guide and coach engineers to utilize rapid control prototyping and/or embedded software methodologies to prove out algorithm concepts
Provide technical expertise and mentorship within the team
Lead competitor system benchmarking, industry technology sensing, and trend analysis
Manage a fleet of test vehicles
Collaborate with tech companies or startups for vehicle control solutions
Collaborate with R&D Headquarters in South Korea to help influence technology roadmap
Manage team resources and develop/improve its engineering capability
Set team goals and objectives, aligned with department's strategic direction
Manage direct reports, including task assignment, employee development and evaluation
Create and deliver executive-level presentations on key project milestones team achievements.
Travel both domestically and internationally (up to 15%).

Basic Qualifications
B.S in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related degree
Minimum of 5 years of industry working experience in automotive software field.
Minimum of 2 years of people management or technical project management experience
Knowledgeable in Model-Based Design in MATLAB/Simulink
Familiar with embedded control software architecture
Experience using automotive communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, Automotive Ethernet, etc.
Hands-on vehicle experience and data acquisition and analysis tools such as ETAS INCA, Vehicle SPY
Able to adapt to agile work scope with shifting priorities, demands, and timelines
Comfortable with blank slate initiatives as well as established projects
Good communication skills and ability to develop/keep good relationships with tech experts from R&D center and internal counterpart teams
Valid Driver's License with satisfactory driving record

Preferred Qualifications
M.S. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related degree.
3+ years of experience as a team leader and/or technical project manager leading delivery of embedded software.
Experience debugging embedded devices and system optimizing performance.
Experience in calibration and in-vehicle testing.
Working knowledge of vehicle communication network systems (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.) and instrumentation/operation of data acquisition systems such as ETAS/INCA and Vector/CANoe.
Familiar with ECU application software architectures including AUTOSAR
Experience in software build systems and project management tools
