Position Summary
Delta College seeks an experienced Assistant Controller to support the Controller in managing the accounting and financial activities of the College and its component units. This role is vital to ensuring compliance with accounting principles, governmental regulations, and reporting requirements. The Assistant Controller will supervise key financial operations, provide oversight for cash management, assist with the budget process, and play a critical role in the annual audit. This position fosters collaboration across departments and supports strategic financial planning for the institution.
Responsibilities and Duties
Key Accountabilities:
- Supervise the Senior Accountant and Student Billing Manager, ensuring proper training and professional development for their teams.
- Maintain expertise in tax-related issues, prepare IRS Form 1099, IPEDS Financial Surveys, and the annual 990T Unrelated Business Income Tax Return.
- Review and assist with accounting and reporting for the Foundation and Endowment Fund, including compliance with applicable FASB pronouncements.
- Assist in preparing the College’s annual budget, perform quarterly budget accountability procedures, and train budget officers.
- Conduct analytical reviews of general ledger accounts, prepare adjustments, year-end accruals, reconciliations, and audit work-papers.
- Prepare financial statements and CPB Annual Financial Report for Public Broadcasting Stations, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and governmental regulations.
- Support the Controller in cash and investment management, developing tools to optimize cash flow and investment income.
- Provide oversight for the College’s Federal, State, and local grants, ensuring compliance with regulations and accuracy in reporting.
- Research and implement software applications to enhance accounting and record-keeping processes, including improving the student billing experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- 3–7 years of related professional experience.
Additional Experiences Considered
- CPA certification with audit experience.
