Position Summary
Delta College is seeking an Academic Business Manager to serve as a critical link between academics and senior management. This role involves strategic planning, resource management, and fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders. The Academic Business Manager ensures compliance with policies and regulations while leading key operational, budgetary, and academic initiatives to support the institution's mission and goals.
Responsibilities and Duties
Academic Responsibilities:
- Oversee and provide controls for the academic budget process, including planning and monitoring.
- Work with academic administration to manage current-year spending, reallocate funds, and support new initiatives.
- Collaborate with Academic Deans to implement and oversee grant programs.
- Facilitate the purchase of instructional materials, equipment, and technology while ensuring compliance with procurement guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) on classroom and instructional technology planning.
- Provide data-driven insights for academic planning, including enrollment trends, course scheduling, and instructional resources.
- Ensure accurate processing of faculty instructional loads, supplemental pay, and enrollment incentive payments.
- Develop strategies and provide clear, actionable data to support decision-making in academic administration.
Business Services Responsibilities:
- Act as a liaison with the Manager of Business and Auxiliary Services.
- Oversee purchasing, accounts payable, and contract administration in compliance with regulatory and college policies.
- Evaluate and negotiate contracts and agreements for best value.
- Maintain vendor files, approve requisitions, and provide guidance on procurement activities.
- Administer travel and reimbursement programs, ensuring compliance with IRS and college guidelines.
- Oversee clinical affiliation contracts, internship agreements, and related arrangements in collaboration with internal customers.
- Update policies and procedures related to purchasing, travel, and accounts payable.
- Assist with asset management, equipment replacement, and lifecycle processes.
General Duties:
- Collaborate with academic and student services administration to meet strategic goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Business Services and Vice President of Business and Finance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Supply Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in accounting or a related field.
- At least 5 years of supervisory or management experience leading teams/staff.
- Proven track record of managing departmental budgets for at least 5 years.
- Proficiency in fund accounting software (e.g., Colleague), SharePoint, SQL, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong oral presentation and written communication skills.
Additional Experiences Considered
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Professional purchasing certification preferred.
- Experience (4–7 years) in purchasing, accounting, travel administration, financial analysis, project management, and leadership.
- Higher education or community college management experience.
