This position performs manual and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, Remote Facilities, pumping station equipment, and lift stations under supervision.  

1. Maintains the Wastewater Treatment Plant and Remote Facilities in a clean, orderly, and safe condition; performs routine general equipment and building maintenance in addition to routine grounds maintenance work.
2. Operates and maintains various wastewater treatment process equipment such as chemical feed systems, pumps, boilers, grit removal equipment, elevators, and other plant equipment; adjusts according to established procedures when necessary.
3. Makes pump and chemical feed changes, as required.  
4. Collects wastewater samples and performs routine tests as assigned and records results.  
5. Performs preventive maintenance and/or repair maintenance on Wastewater Treatment Plant and Remote Facilities equipment as assigned.   May assist in the maintenance and repair work on more complex machinery and electrical equipment.
6. Unloads, dilutes, mixes, and monitors strengths of Hypochlorite levels at Retention Treatment Basins.
7. Cleans floors, chemical feeding equipment, wet wells, containment areas, and flushes tanks and basins.
8. Operates all plant equipment and works as Plant Operator A in emergencies.
9. Operates forklifts, mowers, sewer jets, backhoes and other machinery as required.  Also, may be required to use a variety of standard and specialty tools and equipment in the performance of duties.
10. Performs related duties as required.

1. High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
2. Minimum of 2 years’ work in operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment including industrial size pumps, motors, and compressors.   
3. Previous work experience in a water or wastewater treatment plant is preferred.
4. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan Driver’s License.
5. Must have the ability to obtain wastewater treatment plant operator Class D certification from the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy within 10 test cycles from date of hire.   
6. Familiarity with computers, including operating network and plant control computers and process data collection/reporting systems.
7. Ability to work independently, making routine decisions on the operation of plant machinery.
8. Experience in lead worker responsibilities highly desirable.
9. Must have attendance record acceptable to management.
10. Must be able to understand open channel and pressure hydraulic systems. 

1. Work regularly requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time; occasionally required to work during inclement weather on off shifts and weekends.
2. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
3. Must be able to occasionally work at various heights, depths, and confined spaces.
4. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.  Must be able to wear a respirator when required in hazardous areas.
5. Exposure to both inside and outside environments, and inclement weather conditions. 
6. Must be able to work varied shifts.
7. Must be able to respond to emergency calls within 45 minutes.
