Job Description

Under the supervision of the Muskegon County Public Defender and at the request of the attorneys and holistic defenders of the Muskegon County Public Defender’s Office, the Legal Investigator performs investigations as necessary to support the mission of the Office, including but not limited to witness development, securing and evaluating evidence, use of audio/video materials such as squad car video, body-worn camera recordings, retail store recording, private security recordings, and cell phone recordings, cell phone text messages or social media information, providing professional consultations, and support in the Office’s educational and training missions.

Additional Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, sociology, legal studies; OR,

Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, sociology, legal studies AND seven (7) years of investigative experience, preferably working with audio/video materials; OR,

Be a high school graduate or have successfully completed the General Education Development Test (GED); AND Ten (10) years of investigative experience.
