Position Summary:
Under the supervision of Public Health Director, coordinate fitness and wellness programs and activities for employees of the tribe and Nimkee eligible patients. All Public Health staff must adhere to mandated reporting laws.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate, develop, and implement, with Tribal Public Health, Health Promotion/Disease Prevention, and Fitness staff, events and activities such as diabetic clinics and workshops, comprehensive weight loss, stress management, back care, and blood pressure treatment programs.
- Coordinate, develop, and implement programs identified by HP/DP plan to include: school aged (After School Program Parks & Rec Dept) fitness programs, elderly programs (Andahwod), pre- and post-natal events and programs (Maternal Healthy Start Program) for both SCIT community members and employee groups.
- Provide assistance for HP/DP community and employee events.
- Plan, develop, coordinate and implement tribal fitness host programs such as: Michigan Indian Family Olympics, Fitness Support Groups, Fall Run on the Rez, and other events.
- Coordinate, develop, and implement group exercise classes.
- Develop and implement a spring and winter incentive program.
- Prepare and submit articles and flyers related to health and fitness to the Tribal Newspaper.
- Prepare and submit a monthly Nimkee Fitness Quick Fit Tip to post on the Tribal Internet Web Page.
- Provide input for annual performance evaluation on Fitness Attendants under the direction of the Public Health Director.
- Complete monthly statistics on membership reporting category of membership to the Prevention Director.
- Submit narrative quarterly reports on the progress of program and clients served during that quarter, no later than the fifth day after each quarter.
- Compile and submit daily PCC Reports for medical records.
- Collaborate with tribal IT department to complete and/or update the Fitness Center web site, newsletter, group exercise class schedule, and promotional videos.
- Provide exercise prescriptions based on established ACSM recommendations and guidelines for high risk and well clients at both the Nimkee Fitness Center and at the Andahwod Assisted Living Facility.
- Instruct and lead clients / participants in personal training sessions and / or group exercise classes, upon completion of appropriate instructor certification.
- Measure body compositions, fitness levels, resting heart rate, blood pressure and blood glucose levels.
- Conduct client consultation appointments that involve motivational Interviewing, goal setting and encouragement to all willing clients.
- Develop personalized exercise programs for clients.
- Evaluate physical activity and wellness adherence for high-risk and well populations.
- Record client progression of fitness center incentive programs.
- Chart both education and fitness sessions as well as hemodynamic and physical responses to exercise on high-risk and well clients as needed into the EHR and personal charts.
- Maintain a flexible work schedule to provide the community with use of the Nimkee Memorial Fitness Center.
- Maintain CEU`s to keep current certifications / licensures.
- Attend training as recommended /approved by supervisor.
- Attend/participate in the QI/QA Committee, Infection Control Committee and Wellness Committee.
- Assist with Fitness Center cleaning and equipment maintenance.
- Adhere to client confidentiality and comply with department policies and federal regulations under the Privacy rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor`s degree in a fitness or health related field.
- An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered.
- Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
Desired Qualifications:
- Nationally certified in health, fitness or as a Trainer.
License, Certification, or Special Requirements:
- Ability to obtain HIPAA Certification, Blood Borne Pathogens Certification, CPR/First Aid, BLS Certification and Safety Training within thirty days of hire.
